Finally back in the game, doing some QC. Anyway, this chapter was made into an episode of the Q.E.D. live action drama, but the manga characters are a lot more sympathetic, which also includes the douche bag lead singer. Here is some random info arg from the team wrote about mushrooms:

Mushrooms are the fruiting bodies of fungi, producing spores for dispersal. In the soil, there is a dense network of filaments or threads collectively called the mycelium. A fungus eats by injecting enzymes into the soil, then absorbing the nutrients. Many fungi and plants have a symbiotic relationship, with the plant providing sugars to the fungi and the fungi aiding in the uptake of inorganic compounds like nitrogen (in NO3 form) and phosphorus (as PO4) as well as water.

Releasing the fourth chapter of Grappler Baki / Baki the Grappler entitled “Beyond Technical Fouls—!!“. Thanks to Magrana for supplying the raws.

The project had been on hiatus due to some licensing issues, but it seems to have been resolved now and the license had indeed been dropped in NA. With luck, the releases will now be biweekly, but I’d rather not promise anything.

This chapter’s credit page feature was made by argentscarf from Canada, a fellow scanlator with OrionWave. The inspiration for it came from a conversation we had during QC which ultimately ended with me saying that I used to use a pocket watch as opposed to wearing a wristwatch. He thought it was amusing and drew me in a Victorian Era outfit with the pocket watch. But thanks for the drawing, arg!

Job with Alpha Entertainment

I recently got a job with Alpha Entertainment, a small publishing agency here in Denmark that publishes the upcoming comic and manga magazine, Comic Party. I got the job after the founder, a buddy of mine who helped organize the Artist Alley for Genki 2010, heard about me being a scanlator and asked if I was interested in helping out since he needed staff members.

When I originally accepted the job, it was just as the typesetter, and I figured I’d earn maybe 500 DKK per month (around €68) if I was lucky. I ended up underbidding the other English to Danish translator and got that job as well, so now I’m raking in a lot more than I thought I would; approximately 3000 DKK per month. I could actually be raking in an extra 1000 per month on what he was actually willing to pay me for my services, but I felt like I would be ripping he off then, so I offered my typesetting services for a significantly lower price.

The selection is pretty good, though most is aimed at an older female audience (17-22), I think. Not a lot of seinen-type manga yet, unfortunately, but I’ve tried pitching Kenji and Grappler Baki. The selection, that I know of, is currently:

Fana’s Snow Story (manga)
Lost Heaven (manga)
Ojousama in Ooedo City (manga)
Usagi Yojimbo (comic)
Faux Pas (web comic)
Girl Genius (web comic)

But as nice as this job is, I still need another part-time job to make things go round, since this wouldn’t even cover rent. I’m still hoping for the night-shift at a 7-Eleven, so fingers crossed!

Genki 2010 Over

It’s now been a week and a half since Genki 2010 ended… Initially, I had hoped to write daily reports like I did last year, but I am unfortunately unable to do so because unlike last year, I did not have the spare time to actually make rounds at the convention; I was mostly doing check-in or reception duty when I wasn’t running back and forth solving problems suddenly occurring.

As such, I’m just gonna sum up the convention real quick-like. Major success with 65 different events, only very few delays, and a single cancellation since the dude who was supposed to hold a panel didn’t show up. A vast majority of people went home happy and some even said it was the best con they’ve been to in years. So that’s pretty cool ;P

At the same time, we also learned that we are still lacking in experience and the top 3 things to remember for next year is better communication, check-lists to make sure we don’t forget anything, and better communication!

But despite being busy, I had a nice time with everyone. It seems quite a few people were worried for my well-being though, since I’d be so busy I’d forget to eat and sleep ^^’ The 1UP shroom at the top right is actually a reference to that. The guy who made if for me gave it to me saying “here’s a 1UP mushroom so that you’ll have an extra life in case you die or something.” I thought that was fucking awesome XD But thanks everyone for caring and for the many huggles (I lubz huggles) and I hope to work with you all again next year ♥♥♥

Genki is finally over and I get to rev down a bit from the crazyness of it all. I haven’t been posting anything for a long while now, and it’s been due to Genki 2010. A lot of stuff has happened recently and I’ll gradually update all you regular readers (yes, you four) about it. In the meantime, I’ll be sleeping and resting until I get the sensation back in all the currently numbed parts of my body OTL

As four people reminded me in asking if I had any plans for my big day, to which I graciously responded “… Wtf are you talking about?“, it is apparently my birthday today. This of course DOES explain the giant, floating “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” thing I have floating over my head, but I’m a little dense when it comes to these kinds of subtle hints.

Anywho, it’s my birthday; that magical day of the year where people give me free stuff and I get to be a douche and get away with it 8D I’m turning 23, I think, so I’m supposed to be all mature and stuff, yet all I’ve been able to think about for the last 10-12 minutes is how badly I want to get my hands on a tongue depressor, so that I can make a giant ice pop for myself ♥

Anywho, if I get any cool presents, I’ll post about it later 8D Later, as in, a few days, since I’m spending my birthday on meetings with the Japanese embassy and Genki, the latter of which lasts the entire weekend… OTL

Got 5,000 Genki Business Cards in the Mail

So… just got 5,000 Genki business cards in the mail… Friggin’ insane…

Anyway, I’ve added a scan of the front and back of the Genki business cards to the bottom of the post. The concept is that it’s just a ‘template’ and then people write their own names and contact info on the back when handing them out (getting everyone personal ones was too expensive for the union). Also, we’re giving some to stores to put in each manga they sell as a form of advertising.

How do you like them?

I did a loooot of crazy ass QCing during group QC on this one (and also wrote the note about mimesis) ;>.> I really wish we could have a second QCer with Jap experience soon since I feel like I’m being spread a little thin at the time when double-checking translations (which are from Indonesian to English) with the original Jap RAWs, and with Genki and stuff getting in the way, I’m starting to delay people, which is SO not cool! D8

But ya, the chapter was pretty crazy, and finding all the animal names in English, or even Latin, was such a pain. I only found the Latin name for the butterfly that is the focus point of the story because it was (THANKFULLY) mentioned on like page 7 of a Japanese online newsletter for butterfly enthusiasts OTL

Anyway, enjoy the chapter!! 8D
