ASP Websites

I finally received the FTP and server info for the Asian Studies Programmes’ many website, which means I have finally begun work on some of them, most notably the main site, asianstudies.dk.

The long delay was caused by several unfortunate events leading to everything being dumped on a guy who originally wasn’t meant to do the websites. It was not until Nemu asked me if I knew anyone from the ASP who could do websites that I realised that something was wrong, and I then made direct contact with the… err… ASP… something something… group of people who manage like parties and talk-nights and other aspects of the programmes ‘n stuff… shut up! >_<

Aaaaanywho, as you can see from the image, I haven’t done a lot to the website other than further customizing the already customized Day Dream theme by Jim Whimpey of fightingfriends.com/, so that it would look like I wanted it to look. I also experimented with some code and tried to figure out some other issues that were bugging me with the theme design. Actual content should come some time in the beginning of next week and hopefully the site will be done by next Sunday, unless something unforseen happens.

That aside, I would like to implore everyone to read the monthly online ASP newspaper, Renmin Shinbun, even if you aren’t part of the ASP. The staff does a great job of writing interesting articles, so it’s well worth a read! Oh, and in case anyone is wondering, the characters at the top of the Renmin Shinbun website (人民新聞) read “Jinmin Shinbun“; it means “public newspaper“, so go nuts with it! =3

FFWiki Holiday Shout-Outs 2008

Happy holidays and enjoy the animation, which took me a few weeks to animate and code, except for the spectrum analyser (the bars going up and down), which were ActionScripted by Max Langdon of Pixel Hive Design (I did however edit the code and function to get the image effect I desired).

To play a shout-out, click the name and then press play (because I couldn’t be bothered making a simple auto-play function, deal with it). After that, you can just use the skip buttons to navigate, or you can click then next shout-out you want to hear and press play again. Note that it may take a little time for the animation below to appear, depending on the speed of your Internet connection.

If you want to download the animation to your computer, right-click this link and select “Save destination as…”. The file size is ca. 3.7 MB and can be opened using any web-browser (right-click the file, select “open with…” and select a web-browser on the list).

Also, to all FFWikians viewing this, note that this is the last favor I will be doing for you people and that with the completion of this, I am permanently unaffiliated with the Final Fantasy Wiki.

Hecko set to create ‘FFWiki Holiday Shout-Outs 2008′

I have been approached by some of the users of the Final Fantasy Wiki, asking me if I would create a FFWiki Holiday Shout-Out animation for 2008. While no longer officially a part of the FFWiki, I agreed to do so since they asked ever so nicely, and because I am too much of a gentleman to turn down a young lady (I’m a dying breed, man!!!).

Anywho, many have probably not even heard of the FFWiki Holiday Shout-Out, so here’s a short history session. Last year (2007), around Christmas time, I got the ‘briliant’ idea of being social (as you’ve probably guessed, I was sick at the time…) by making a collection of audio clips from the users of the FFWiki, wishing everyone else a happy holiday. Essentially, to add a more personal touch to their holiday greeting, instead of ‘just’ writing a comment.

The ‘FFWiki Holiday Shout-Outs 2007‘ flash animation has been added below since I’m also using this post as a reference in a forum. Everything in the flash has been created from scratch by me, except for the spectrum analyser (the bars going up and down), which were ActionScripted by Max Langdon of Pixel Hive Design.

The ‘FFWiki Holiday Shout-Outs 2007‘ animation was a mediocre success, with only few people actively participating. Those that did not participate were unable to either due to time restraints or lack off a recording device. However, it seems to have sparked enough interest to turn this into a potential holiday tradition, though I have no idea of how many will participate this year, if any at all. Regardless, I have begun the process of creating a new audio player design from scratch, because lets face it… the old one looks like something off a radio in one of those toddler shows on Nickelodeon. Once done, the animation will be posted on this site, around Christmas time, assuming I’m alive and well at that time.

Yeah, it’s back cause I’m just such a fucking nice guy… P.S. This project has been put on hold indefinitely until CSM replaces his mic that broke some odd months ago.

This index has been as a subpage of sorts to the Final Fantasy Wiki:Intangirs are VIndigo article, because a) MediaWiki does not allow a great deal of HTML coding; and b) Filesharing sites apparently suck ass. Therefor, you can listen to the episodes and download them to your computer from this page.

For those of you who do not know what Intangirs are VIndigo is, it is a radio drama written, directed, and edited by Crazyswordsman, the head honcho of the FFWiki himself. It is based on the story of the game Final Fantasy VI, albeit with some plot twists and original characters. The voices are supplied by the various users on the FFWiki.

The “show” has been met with somewhat mixed reviews after the first episode was finished, but despite its editorial kinks here and there (which are expected to be ironed out by the second episode), most agree that the show has potential, so let’s see how far they can take it.

This was an animation I did for April Fools for the FFWiki. It was never used though, and I figured it would be a shame to let it go to waste, so here it is (mind you, it was a rush job I had to complete in 7 hours, so I’m well aware of the fact that it could be better…)
