Today is Kaiki’s birthday, so congrats. And now for the real reason for me making this post; showing off my fail arts and making filler posts while I think of something better to write! >:3

Like last year, I made her a China Gurl drawing, though this time, it was more on impulse than of me actually caring (that sounds so mean OTL) since Macromedia Flash was already open on my laptop and I was like “… meh, ok“. Originally, I hadn’t planned on giving her anything since she said she didn’t want anything from me anyway, hence the impulse thing :/

Copy Skills Getting Better?

A filler post, I guess? Anyway, in recent days, I have been wanting to practice my colouring and copy skills because in case of the former, I suck, and in case of the latter, I suck… just not as badly. Anyway, in order to improve my colouring skillz, or rather develop my lack thereof, I have been talking a lot with (read: “bugging the shit out of“) a pretty awesome artist artist called Nijidono.

Anyway, as a kinda cruddy way of showing my appreciation and getting to practice at the same time, I chose one of her drawings to copy and colour, as seen below (click for bigger versions). I have a few anatomy fails (such as the hand sizes), but overall, it looks pretty good/similar, no?

AoH Winter Ball Comic

As some of you may recall, I joined a drawing RPG called Academy of Heroes (AoH for short) back in December. Well, within the AoH universe, there was recently a ball room event and a friend of mine (fallenangelsnevercry), whose character is the love interest of my character, decided to make a winter ball comic with them in it~.

I ended up loving it so much that I decided to lineart and colour the whole thing and I just finished the last frame a few minutes ago, so decided to upload the entire thing here 8D There are 21 frames in total ;3

I recently got an LS account so that other people could ‘tune in’ whenever I was drawing or doing sharing-worthy stuff. I’m on mostly late evenings around midnight CET since that’s where my Internet connection is mostly stabil (unless my router decides to be an über bitch…), so feel free to check in on livestream.com/heckox if you want to chat with me during the broadcast. Otherwise, just scroll to the bottom of this post for a watch.

The broadcasts are also recorded and can be streamed at any time by clicking the video thumbnails at the bottom of the site. Quality is a bit… volatile… since I’m using a laptop with only 500MB RAM, which is actually below requirements XD I’ll be switching to one with 4 times as much in future broadcasts, hopefully that helps.

Collabs All Over the Place!

Ever since joining the drawing role play Academy of Heroes, I’ve been more active in terms of drawing. I still suck at it, but I’m a lot more active XP

My lineart skills have, however, improved significantly since I first started a month ago. For instances, in the collab I did with Themy and dementedmonkey, both from deviantART, I did the lineart (drawing seen on the right, click for bigger version). I deffo had the easiest job of the three since I don’t have to worry about proportions or light sources, I just have to draw on top of the lines, but I’m still pretty proud of my efforts XP

Others seem to like it too, and I’ve been invited to do another collab with them, as well as 2-3 others, so that’s pretty cool ^^ Be sure to follow my progress here and to watch my dA profile ;3

Joined Academy of Heroes~

I’MMA GON’ BE A SUPERHERO, PAW! 8D

Okay, no. “Academy of Heroes” is a drawing RP (role play) on deviantART.com founded and administrated by a dozen or so artists on dA who also act as the teachers in the RP. In the Academy, there’s room for 120 students equally distributed in 6 different Houses (Houses work kinda like the school wings in Harry Potter). The students then draw their OCs interacting with eachother and doing the Academy assignments + the semester exams (the latter of which is a giant House collab)

I joined this morning upon reading about it in NeodeadlyraveR’s dA journal since I though it sounded super fun and like a great way to motivate me get better at drawing, but was put on hold until my character was finished (I did that a little while ago now). Hopefully, I’ll get in, but until then, say hi to my OC, Blaze:

Bio:

He’s a super-shy 15-year-old who’s not really good with social interaction, especially when it comes to the opposite sex. When he gets embarrased, he hides the lower part of his face behind his House-issued scarf (he wears it around his neck normally).

He belongs to a feral species of humans and when angry, the white in his eye turns black, his pupil becomes slit, his canines become longer, and he becomes extremely “fired up” to fight (hence his name). Since he’s only a teen, he can’t consciously activate his ‘transformation’ nor control it properly.

He is blind in his left eye due to an accident he had when he was a toddler which left part of his face scarred. He’s pretty self-conscious about it, which is why he grew out his hair on that side (so he could hide it). While only having one good eye, due to being feral, it doesn’t affect his depth perception much.

He has a bit of a sweet tooth, but doesn’t like cake or chocolates much (more of a winegum&lollipop kind of guy) XP

Hecko Attempts Colouring Drawings

Some of you may remember the post from about two weeks back called “Learning to Clean Scans” where, after some advice from Kaiki, I attempted cleaning/tracing/inking some of my drawings to make them look better.

Anyway, I took it a step further and attempted actually colouring the drawings, since I now had digital lineart, and wanted to show the results (and also because I haven’t updated in a while and this post took like 5 minutes to make… >_> ). I didn’t get advice on this one, and I’m not at all experienced with colours and shadows/light sources, so if it sucks, that’s probably why.

They were both coloured (as well as traced) in Macromedia Flash MX, which is actually a bit of a pain since it doesn’t have blend functions, so making smooth transitions to another colour is either roundabout or straight out impossible… =.=; Should you for whatever reason actually like the drawings, they can be faved on deviantART.com (clicking the below images will lead to their respective deviantART pages where they can be faved)

Learning to Clean Scans

This past month, I’ve been drawing a lot more often as a way of relieving stress and not having my brain melt from all the projects I have going, such as school, exams, searching for a job, planning Genki 2010 with Kurikku and some other Genksters, dying, etc.

However, even after a long time with physical therapy, my fine motor skills are still fucked, which means that while I can draw drafts, I suck at tracing the lines >_> To make matters worse, even after scanning, I had no idea of how to actually clean the scans properly, so my drawings were of pretty low quality (filled with errors and whatnot) and I had no way of colouring them digitally without making the drawing look like the colour had vomitted on the drawing OTL

Having been unable to find any any useful tutorials online (except for one which actually helped greatly on how to set the scanner to remove most of the smudges), I called up Kaiki for some help, since she’s probably the best artist I know (read: “have the phone number of” XP ) and I figured if anyone had a solution, it would be her for sure.

She gave me some pretty simple, but useful, pointers on how to clean scans and I have been playing around with it since. Clicking the below images will lead to their respective deviantART pages where they can be faved

I still suck at it, and I’m immensely slow at doing it, but I’d like to think it has greatly improved the quality of my drawings. Don’t you agree? So a big thanks to Kaiki for the pieces of advice, and I hope to be able to improve further with the help of other talented artists as well.

China-Gurl to the… Rescue..?

I made the drawing ages ago for Kaiki’s birthday as an addition to a stuffed animal I got her as a joke gift. The joke is that at some point in time, when we used to hang out, I used to tease her a bit sometimes by calling her the superheroine, China-Gurl (for whatever reason, I honestly can’t recall why anymore). So I saw this cute little stuffed panda holding a heart while browsing in a store and for some reason thought it would make the perfect sidekick for China-Gurl. Yeah, I know…

Anyway, here’s the end result of the drawing:

I referenced the avatar she made of herself ages ago for China-Gurl’s pose.
She seemed to like the drawing enough to ask if I would do more of them (if you like it too, you can fav it on deviantART here). While I told her no at the time, I’ve since heard that she’s having corrective eye surgery, so I might do one as a joke get well card.

New Art Blog

NB!! A few weeks after writing this post, I killed off the art blog and moved everything to the new on-site gallery here. I’ve kept the post for archive purposes.

Rather than sulking about not being allowed to post at the Daily Draw anymore, after having been asked to leave, and not being able to find another place that seemed just as much fun to be part of, I decided to just start up my own art blog. Like with joining the DD, making the art blog was done mostly because I don’t feel like limiting M Dash to only art posts.

Being a poor student and all, I used what little resources I already had. For that reason, the art blog can be found at heckox.wordpress.com, a blog I made ages for testing stuff out and had no use for since. I’m currently in the process of uploading some of the stuff I’ve already made (should be done sometime tomorrow, since I have to study for a test), after which I will begin the daily drawing process.

Anywho, I hope people will follow it and give feedback on the drawings, as it is always nice to know where to improve and how.

Hecko Leaves Daily Draw

Just today, I was asked to leave the Daily Draw because of friction between me and some of the other members. It caught me by complete surprise since I wasn’t aware of this, but then again, I am pretty oblivious to a lot of things…

After a short dialogue with Kaiki, where I had asked what I had done to fuck up so badly, she explained that I had pretty much come off as an arrogant know-it-all intent on showing people that I’m right and they’re not and overall was making people feel bad about themselves. Obviously, this was NOT intentional… However, if I really came across that way, then it is fully understandable why some of the members would want for me to leave, so I have no hard feelings about it.

I would therefore like to sincerely apologize for apparently having come off as such a jackass, I honestly feel terrible about it. Had I known that my comments made me appear that way, and that people felt hurt by them, I would’ve STFU. So I’m truly and deeply sorry for any distress I may have caused. I wish the Daily Draw community all the best in the future and much success with their art.

Joined the Daily Draw

I finally caved after art ninjas repeatedly drew on my face while I was sleeping, and I got tired of washing the muddy footprints off the ceiling… Okay, no, sucky jokes aside, after visiting the Daily Draw so often, I actually started doodling a lot more, which for some reason motivated me to study more, since my brain stays active making me wanna do stuff rather than me just getting bored and thus unmotivated. So “wuhuw!” for motivation =D

Another thing that made me join, despite me previously having turned it down a few times when the artists there asked me (lulz, made me sound important XP), was that I didn’t want that many of my posts here on M Dash to be about art and me drawing, since
a) I doubt that many people would be interested in that;
b) my current M Dash readers (i.e. you. Yes, you. I don’t have anyone else… ;_;) are less inclined to give feedback than they [DDers] are;
c) the Daily Draw specializes in daily drawing posts (duuur, obviously), so why not take advantage of such a great, specialized tool? ;3

~~So please follow my progress on the Daily Draw, as well as the progress of all the other artists. They’re pretty kewl, and have already given me a warm welcome on my first piece ^^~~ I was asked to leave after only two days due to apparent friction between me and some of the other users. As a response, I wrote a letter of apology and left.
