For those of you who don’t know, i.e. you haven’t used the Internet for the past couple of weeks, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is an awareness campaign for ALS, where you donate $100 to ALS or dump a bucket of ice water on your head to raise awareness – some do both – and then nominate 3 people to do the same.
Long story short, I really hate the cold and I figure my money would do more good than me getting soaked, so I donated 500 DKK (~90 USD) to charity.
Most who donate to the cause, have donated for ALS research, which is great, but I wanted to donate to a charity that help people with ALS here and now.
That’s why I donated to muskelsvindfonden.dk, who have mentor and support programmes for young people suffering from ALS, to help them, and their families, come to terms with the disease and they sponsor projects on how to live with ALS.
As for my nominees, I nominate no one. Everyone should do what they feel is right instead of feel obligated to do something nice because someone happened to think of them.
So if you have a couple of spare dollars (or whatever currency) in your pocket, then donate it to charity, buy a homeless person a cup of coffee or a sandwich, or just save up for a rainy day.
If by the end of the day, you’re happy with the effort you put into helping yourself and others, then all good, ya?
